2020-2021 will be my 22nd year in education. I have taught in 3 states including North Carolina and Kentucky. I graduated from the University of Kentucky and then earned a masters in Urban Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati. I achieved my National Board Certification in 2005. I am the 2016 national recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for the state of Utah.
Teaching mathematics and ELD at Hillside has proven to be some of the most rewarding work I have done in my career. Facilitating conversations about mathematics so that all students can see, understand and communicate their thinking is what I want to do. Reducing anxiety around mathematics and breaking down the idea that there is a "math person" drives my work with students.
If I'm not in my classroom you will find me on a mountain somewhere hiking, running or skiing.
